Motorola ING supplies both the DC2000 (digital modem) and the FM4000 CSU/DSU to customers such as Energis, Reuters, Sainsburys, Boots, Ernst & Young and Greenalls Breweries. Often using Frame Relay as the Carrier Mechanism, Motorola sell the FM4000 and DC2000 in conjunction with the Motorola 6500 Vanguard Multi Protocol Device. This means they can offer a highly efficient and complete solution to their customers.
As the EMEA Headquarters Motorola ING UK need to handle a variety of interfaces delivered to them by the carriers. With 14 separate versions the FM4000 is an obvious choice for E1 services. E2, E3 and DS3 Metrodata DSU's are also available.
The leased line speed will be anywhere from 64Kbit/s to 2Mbit/s (G.703, G.704) in either a BNC or RJ45 presentation. Where a simple, unmanaged 2Mbit/s service is required Motorola would choose the DC2000. The edge interface between a private LAN and a public wide-area network often presents a blind spot in management terms:
Motorola need to eliminate this blind spot to offer a complete, working solution. Using the FM4000s Enhanced Level Performance Monitoring facilities and SNMP Module, Motorola can illuminate these blind spots.
The SNMP data from the FM4000 can be ported into HP Openview, Castlerock SNMPc and Sun NetManager for example, along with the SNMP data from the Motorola Vanguard 6500 Multi Protocol Device.
