Growth and future plans
Metrodata is one of the very few independent, British manufacturers of high-speed communications equipment.
We are tremendously excited about the future and plan strong growth. We use new and emerging technologies to develop products for the exploding communications market. More data is generated every day and Metrodata makes the equipment here in Surrey to move data world-wide over ATM networks.
New opportunities are presenting themselves all the time. With the right people, we're confident that we can stay ahead of the game. The only question is whether you could be one of those people?
Culture
Working at the leading edge does mean that technology is important at Metrodata but it's not everything. If you are open to new ideas/concepts and have the talent to learn quickly, new technologies are not a problem.
Perhaps as important as the ability to learn, is your skill at working in a team. The days of the great, solitary, scientist such as Isaac Newton are gone. The complexity of modern communications equipment demands optimal teamwork to bring well crafted, well tested products to market within a reasonable time-scale.
Being a good team player does not mean wearing the right tie, or even wearing matching socks. Being a Metrodata team player simply means accepting the project goals and getting there together as a bunch of individuals whilst meeting the quality standards which we have worked out together and which our customers expect. We do recognise that Mentoring/Coaching are vital to success. Nobody knows everything, but the team knows an awful lot. Making best use of that pool is one of the keys to good project management.
Communication is encouraged at all levels. Metrodata regularly shares its strategies and goals to ensure a common direction and to give employees the information to make decisions (empowerment). Everyone at Metrodata is given the necessary decision-making responsibility to achieve results. Teamwork is supported and rewarded. Company meetings are held twice a year. Departmental meetings are held about once a month. Team briefings are held about once a week. Regular newsletters and e-mail communications are distributed. There is an excellent company Intranet.
Metrodata tries to provide a stimulating environment for all employees by providing high levels of motivation, by recognition for good work and by removing obstacles that hinder creativity.
Benefits
The benefits of working with a company like Metrodata extend beyond the environment and inspiring company culture. All salaries include a profit-related element, allowing everyone to benefit from the success of the company.
Metrodata supports flexitime and part-time work as well as occasional teleworking (working from home), depending on the particular work requirements in the department and the manager's discretion. Metrodata staff enjoy a pension plan with no employee contributions required. You can of course, if you wish, top this up with your own contributions. All Metrodata staff benefit from free Private Health Cover. Other benefits include 21 days' holiday (rising to 25) and as much tea as you can drink.
Personal Development
Whatever your background, at Metrodata there is one thing you can be sure of - training that sets the standard for the industry. We know how important each individual is to the company's future. Which is why we do everything we can to support you in your quest for learning and career development. This can be as basic as a short in-house introduction to word processing or as extensive as an externally organised in-depth course on the latest aspects of broadband communications technology.
Twice yearly reviews are carried out with your line manager, providing an opportunity to update your professional logbook with your personal achievements, to plan your goals and training up to the next review. Every new engineer is allocated a personal professional mentor who knows the company, the tools, the working practices and the technology.
The location
Metrodata enjoys a superb location, based in the UK's "Silicon Valley" with easy access to the M3, M4, M25, A3 and Heathrow Airport and at the same time retaining the benefits of a semi-rural location. Our smart, modern offices are situated between Egham and Chertsey, an area steeped in history - www.egham.co.uk
As a result of our proximity to the motorway network there is scope to live in a variety of surrounding towns and still enjoy a relatively easy journey to work. Depending on your preference both quiet, semi-rural towns or lively and active locations are feasible. Currently our staff come from places like, Egham, Staines, Twickenham, Windsor, Weybridge, Slough, Reading, Woking, and various parts of West London. Rented and purchase accommodation is available and we can supply details of local estate agents if you are new to the area. If you are moving to the area, we are happy to help or provide further information. Please do not hesitate to talk to us.
