The Metrodata FM4950 DSU is used to interface high performance DTE equipment such as bridges or routers with HSSI interfaces to unframed 44.736Mbps DS3 leased line services.
Local management port for configuration and diagnostics
Comprehensive performance monitoring of both device and line
Built to European Standards
Optional remote management using SNMP and Telnet
Optional -48 volt DC supply
FM4950 as an Unframed DS3 to HSSI converter
The FM4950 offers conversion between an HSSI serial interface and a DS3 line interface with BNC connectors. The FM4950 only supports unframed operation and so should NOT be used with framed DS3 leased line services, or cell based DS3 equipment.
The FM4950 has several LEDs for displaying current status, plus comprehensive configuration and diagnostics via a menu driven user interface.
The optional Metrodata LM1100 SNMP enabler permits remote management via either Telnet or SNMP.
FM4950 connecting an HSSI router to an unframed DS3 44.736Mbps leased line
This application shows an FM4950 connecting an HSSI router card to an unframed DS3 44.736Mbps leased line, such as a BT Megastream-45 service. HSSI serial ports are often the most cost effective high speed WAN port available on routers. Telecom carriers provision DS3 44.736Mbps services with G.703 connectivity. Care must be taken to ensure that this equipment is not used with framed DS3 services, such as those available in North America. Care must also be taken to ensure that this equipment is not used in conjunction with cell based E3 equipment, such as some router cards.
HSSI routers connected together via an unframed DS3 44.736Mbps leased line using FM4950 units
This application shows a pair of FM4950 units connecting a pair of HSSI routers via an unframed DS3 44.736Mbps leased line, such as a BT Megastream-45 service.
